Quote from Parkett
"Oscar Tuazon is not merely interested in the possibility of structural failure but wants to make such failure present in the work, palpable real. He follows intuitively the disruptive impact his sculptures have on the space around them – how they literally eat space. Even if Tuazon tends to refuse suggestions of narrative and context, one can sense a kind of sci-fi dystopia..."
Philippe Pirotte, No. Parkett 89, 2011
Additional Quote
“Alloy (For Steve Baer) highlights Oscar Tuazon’s interest in fitting together identical modular parts in order to create a new form. Inspired by Baer, a visionary inventor of solar and residential designs, Tuazon takes hex nuts as his material of choice—industrial parts such as these are characteristic of his practice—and in his handling, they are beautifully transformed into a seemingly weightless sculptural piece.” -Artspace

Artist Document
Oscar Tuazon explains his idea for “Alloy (for Steve Baer)” for Parkett 89:
“I have an idea for the edition. It's a zome joint. What's that? It's the hub for a modular building system, a bit like a geodesic dome but with greater morphological possibilities. I picked one up from Steve Baer, the godfather of the zonohedron, about five years ago and since then I've been waiting for a chance to recreate one myself. Baer's version, which was used in a modular building, is about 12cm diameter. It's just a beautiful object, full of possibility. I'd like to make a larger version …”
